| Urban redevelopment |

  Following German
reunification, the populations of almost all the new Laender in
eastern Germany have dropped significantly and this has resulted
in places in dramatic falls in occupancy levels in tenement
buildings. Structural changes in many regions of western Germany
have also made new urban development strategies and models
necessary. Demographic change means that the situation will
deteriorate even more in the longer term, so that urban
redevelopment will be the central topic in the coming
years.
Ernst Basler + Partner GmbH has been playing an active role in
urban redevelopment, and in many towns and cities is a partner in
the implementation of urban redevelopment strategies. Aspects
which are often neglected, such as future economic and financial
development are also the subjects of detailed analysis.
Although it is still early days, it has already become plain that
long-term processes in the towns and cities will be necessary for
the implementation and monitoring of the planning strategies, but
also in order to make it possible to balance various interests
and to allow public participation.
We offer a full range of relevant planning, implementation and
moderation instruments, and offer tailor-made solutions based on
the specific situation of the city in question. For the
competition "Stadtumbau Ost 2002 we produced the entries for two
towns.
