| New computer capacity for DWD | | | | | | In view of the growing expectations placed on weather forecasts and the rapidly increasing volumes of data that have to be handled, the German Meteorological Service (DWD) was planning to acquire a new high performance computer.
We were supporting DWD in its planning by producing and editing the necessary documentation. Among other things, this included analysing the specific requirements of the various user groups e.g. aviation, shipping, disaster emergency services, etc.
In order to investigate the economic viability, statistics relating to storm damage were also included. On the basis of the existing situation, projections were made for a solution which not only provides for routine operations but which also offers a down-time backup strategy.
The report formed a key planning element for the entire acquisition procedure.
