In particular the rural regions in structurally weak areas face grave challenges as a result of current demographic trends. Falling population levels make it necessary to gradually downsize the infrastructure provisions, but this only provides further impulses for people to leave the areas, fearing another reduction in the quality of life. Parallel to this, technological developments and market liberalisation in the agricultural sector are making it necessary to develop an alternative economic base in many regions.

In this context, the project work of Ernst Basler + Partner aims at strengthening rural regions by the promotion and development of their endogenous potential. Taking specific features of the region into account, tailor-made solutions are developed together with local participants. Only in this way can integrated rural development strategies and feasibility studies be successfully implemented in projects.

Sustainable regional development not only requires staying power but also on-going monitoring of the various activities and processes: professional regional management can provide effective support in such cases. We can contribute our years of experience in a wide range of monitoring processes relating to regional development.
