Whether shrinking or thriving, municipalities find themselves facing increasingly complex challenges of urban development or redevelopment. In particular the focus is increasingly on procedural demands, and there are growing control and communication requirements. Urban development goals can no longer be met solely with the classic instruments of supply planning. More attention has to be paid to the interests of business, the housing sector, infrastructure operators and the public, and these must be harmonised in sustainable urban development.

However, the capacity and flexibility of many local and regional authorities is limited by restructuring and downsizing. By drawing on external management services, control processes can be tightened and a wide range of complex tasks can be tackled effectively. External management services can provide a useful supplement in areas such as:

    -Bundling relevant urban development activities
-Moderation of consultation, planning and decision-making processes
    -Monitoring and evaluation
    -PR work and workshops
    -Project control for key projects

Since 2001, Ernst Basler + Partner have been providing comprehensive management services in the town of Guben which augment the municipal project management. Structures and factors contributing to success were presented for other towns and cities in the article "Controlling urban redevelopment in Guben" in MSWV Aktuell 1/2004 of the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning (MIR).

For other towns we provide specific services in priority areas. We would be glad to make suggestions about contributions we could make for "Your Town".
