| Transboundary urban development and traffic and transport development | | | | | | The eastern enlargement of the European Union is having a decisive influence on the framework conditions for the development of border regions. The expected increase in cross-border exchanges and the resultant divergence in regional development trends give rise to a range of questions to which the affected municipalities will only be only to react jointly.
Against this background, model proposals are developed within the framework of the research project of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing (BMVBW) "The development of integrated transboundary transport systems - the example of Görlitz / Zgorzelec and Frankfurt (Oder) / Slubice" in the Urban Traffic and Transport Research Programme (FoPS) as well as general recommendations for sustainable, demand-oriented adaptations of transboundary traffic and transport systems.
In this context, scenarios are discussed for future urban development and models are proposed for the prediction of typical transboundary traffic patterns. Approaches are analysed which can optimise traffic supplies and increase efficiency, and which also make a contribution to the reduction of traffic levels and the sustainable development of transboundary urban development and traffic and transport development. In addition, proposals are developed for planning and financing instruments as well as forms of cooperation.
We also accompany the cooperation and research process with active participation in networks such as the Forum for Border Towns, and we present papers at international conferences.
